For a new coffee and wine bar in Basel’s Gundeldingen Quarter, our task was to design a space that could transition well from morning pastries and coffee to evening served food and drinks. The aim was to capture the relaxed ‘all day’ character of an established institution; a place that presents in a contemporary way, but at the same time feels like it’s always been there. The bright material palette in the front room facing street and the darker, intimate dining room at rear are tied together by a scalloped carpentry lighting theme that conjures the bubble graphics of the cafe’s signage and logo.
